Fire Sprinkler Distribution AutoLISP Free Download | AutoCAD Automation Tool
Designing sprinkler layouts manually in AutoCAD is time-consuming and repetitive, especially on large floor plans. This Fire Sprinkler Distribution AutoLISP tool places sprinklers automatically at your defined spacing and grid alignment, helping MEP draftsmen and fire protection engineers save hours on every layout.

What Does the LISP Do?
- Places sprinklers automatically in a grid layout
- Uses your own X and Y spacing
- Works with rectangular or irregular zones
- Aligns the grid with walls and defined boundaries
- Reduces drafting errors in repetitive layouts
Ideal for sprinkler layouts in parking areas, commercial spaces, warehouses and malls.
Sprinkler Spacing Reference (NFPA 13)
Before you run the LISP, set the spacing according to the hazard classification. For standard spray upright and pendent sprinklers:
- Light hazard (offices, hotels, residential areas): maximum spacing 4.6 m, maximum coverage 20.9 m² per sprinkler (hydraulically calculated systems)
- Ordinary hazard (parking, retail, light manufacturing): maximum spacing 4.6 m, maximum coverage 12.1 m² per sprinkler
- Extra hazard: maximum spacing 3.7 m, maximum coverage 9.3 m² per sprinkler (hydraulically calculated systems)
Always check both limits. For example, a 4 m x 4 m grid is within the 4.6 m spacing limit, but its 16 m² coverage is too large for ordinary hazard. A 3.4 m x 3.4 m grid (11.6 m²) works instead.
What to Check After Running the LISP
The LISP handles the grid, but a compliant layout still needs an engineer’s review:
- Distance from walls must not exceed half the allowable spacing, and sprinklers should be at least 100 mm from walls.
- Keep at least 1.8 m between sprinklers to avoid cold soldering.
- Check beams, ducts and light fittings for obstructions and adjust positions where needed.
- Confirm the hazard classification and local authority requirements for your project.
File Information
- File Type: .lsp (AutoLISP)
- Command: BARRAY
- Software Required: AutoCAD (full version; AutoCAD LT supports LISP from version 2024)
- Script Name: SprinklerAuto.lsp
- Usage: Free for personal and academic use
- File Size: ~8 KB
Who Should Use This?
- MEP and fire fighting draftsmen
- Fire protection engineers
- CAD technicians handling large projects
- Students learning AutoLISP scripting
Benefits of Using This LISP
- Saves hours of drafting time on large floor plans
- Keeps sprinkler spacing consistent
- Makes it easy to redo or update layouts
- Improves quality control on large projects
How to Use
- Type APPLOAD in AutoCAD, select SprinklerAuto.lsp and click Load.
- Type BARRAY in the command line and press Enter.
- Enter the X and Y spacing.
- Select the area where sprinklers should be placed.
- Done. The sprinkler symbols will populate the drawing.
Tip: An .lsp file is plain text. You can open it in Notepad to review the code before loading it.
